The Shipfitter must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to assemble, modify, layout, fabricate, repair, and install plates, shapes, and/or pipe to be used to form a part of a structural assembly in connection with ship alteration and repair. Shipfitters with 3 or more years of experience laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting parts of structural metal products with the use of regular supervision while always adhering to industry safety standards. Essential Functions:

Positions align, fit, and welds parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.

Verifies conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.

Tack-welds fitted parts together.
