The International Visitor Access Charging programme is investigating the design and optimisation of a system to charge international visitors at four iconic high‑use destinations (Piopiotahi/Milford Sound, Aoraki/Mt Cook, Tongariro Alpine Crossing, and Mautohe/Cathedral Cove). Revenue captured will be used for projects that support sustainable tourism while protecting and enhancing Aotearoa New Zealand’s natural environment.
