Seasonal Kiwanis Farm Assistant

SUMMARY We had a record‐breaking growing season last year and we are hoping to do even better this year! This 20‐30‐hour per week temporary position is responsible for supporting the management of the Thurston County Food Bank's (TCFB) collaborative project Olympia Kiwanis Food Bank Gardens (OKFBG). Under the direction of the Farm Manager/Field‐to‐Food‐Bank Coordinator, primary responsibilities for supporting the OKFBG may include tasks required to operate a small‐scale vegetable farm: soil preparation, tool use and maintenance, irrigation set‐up and maintenance, field sowing, greenhouse tasks, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, and post‐harvest handling and delivery, in addition to volunteer recruitment and coordination. Garden staff will also have the opportunity to learn about irrigation, seed varieties, and other farming skills. Farm Assistants should be prepared to work in all weather conditions.
