Summary The Wound Care Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to Veteran's and families in the inpatient and outpatient areas. He/she demonstrates leadership when providing and improving patient care; serves as a role model, clinical consultant, and content expert. Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Facilitation, implementation, evaluation, and revision(s) of a comprehensive and integrated skin/ostomy management program for patients. Provides specialized care for non-healing ulcers and wounds including, but not limited to, pressure injuries, venous/arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and traumatic and non-healing surgical wounds. This diverse clinical picture necessitates this nurse possess extensive knowledge of medical/surgical issues as welI as advanced wound care treatment modalities: biological tissue grafts, low frequency ultrasound treatments, compression wraps, lymphedema pumps, topical oxygen, and specific wound dressings.
