The primary role of the phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves floating between multiple locations to ensure efficient operation and patient care.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct blood draws and label specimens accurately.
+ Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
+ Decontaminate and update patient information.
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
+ Understand and adhere to physicians' orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
