Ophthalmic Technician

The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for completing initial work up of patients such as gathering and documenting chief complaint, ocular and systemic history, and past family and social history. Will perform initial patient assessments to determine the ophthalmic status of each patient. May scribe in electronic medical records format to document the patient visit and examination. Contributes to the team as necessary to ensure quality patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Escort all patients from the waiting room for data collection. Following testing, advise them as to who will see them next and regularly check on patients to ensure they are comfortable while they are waiting.
• Educate all new patients regarding office procedures. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
