Medical Technician (Phlebotomy)

Summary This Medical Technician-Phlebotomy position is located in the Community Based Clinics at the Portland VA Clinic and the Bangor VA Clinic within the Togus VA Healthcare System. The incumbent carries out duties in phlebotomy and specimen processing and responds to assigned Supervisors and performs work in a clinical laboratory providing a range of blood drawing procedures, waived tests including finger-stick based testing, and other minor test as assigned. Responsibilities The major duties of the job include, but are not limited to: Performs standard diagnostic tests or procedures such as venipuncture and finger stick to collect blood specimens according to written protocols or as directed by the physician or other professional staff. Adheres to safety, infection control, and universal precautions always while drawing blood. Enters all requests into the hospital computer system using multiple formats.
