Summary The Locksmith is a position assigned to the General Support Shop, Engineering Service Line located at the VA Medical Center in Augusta, GA. Responsibilities Major duties include, but are not limited to. Installs and adjusts a variety of commercially manufactured locking devices including combination locks which are typically installed in such security units as safes, vaults, cabinets and chests. Installs devices with features such as dual locking capabilities, mechanical and electronic interaction with timing mechanisms, combination locks or actuating mechanisms. Sets up coding systems involving varying types of locks and keyways and uses software systems management, technical manuals to insure that various keyways are compatible. Uses arithmetic to set up coding system and select the coding system and select the correct size of pins, and maintains facility key plans.
