Chief Mechanic - Maritimes

The Chief Mechanic is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment on board. The role supervises all Engineer Officers and monitors overtime. Furthermore, the role is accountable for setting and maintaining the department's operating budget, adhering to the purchasing procedures, and always protecting the interests of the owners and the company.

Main Responsibilities

·Oversee the Engine Room department and ensure the safety of the crew

·Implement company policies and procedures concerning the department as described in the Safety Management System (SMS)

·Ensure that the Engine Room department personnel receive formal shipboard training through the designated Officer on board

·Handle discipline on board and the evaluation of all Engine department personnel

·Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the ship's machinery and technical installations
