Overview

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter‑governmental organisation mandated to promote the widespread and increased adoption of sustainable renewable energy. IRENA supports member states in their transition to a sustainable energy future, providing a platform for international cooperation and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge.

Within this mandate, the Knowledge, Policy and Finance Centre (KPFC) focuses on collecting data, developing knowledge platforms, and conducting analysis to support the creation of enabling environments for investment and growth in renewables. A key service of IRENA is the Global Atlas platform, which hosts more than 2000 renewable energy resource maps and provides geospatial and time‑series services, including prefeasibility site assessment for solar and wind projects.
